FAQ

No, you do not, but it helps! However you must LOVE to move and dance if you are interested in becoming a MFLCI. Those with less teaching experience or dance expertise may take more time to complete the training. This is acceptable. Anyone interested in "getting a taste" is encouraged to attend our free MFL classes and lectures., and is welcome to attend our theory workshops, which are required for graduation.

They may be taken in any order. All of the pre-requisite workshops are open to those with no prior knowledge or those wishing to refresh their knowledge, or simply learn the Moving For Life perspective/application of these movement concepts and principles. These classes are open to the public as well. Participants do not have to be a professional dancer or athlete. While it helps to have taken theory courses prior to attending the 28- hour pedagogy intensive it is not necessary to have completed them all. Get started whenever you can!

What is important is to study the work in an embodied way - through movement and engaged dialogue - whether on Zoom or in-person. However, if you are beginning these studies now, it is preferable to study with an MFLCI, or Certified Teacher of BodyMind Centering or a Dynamic Embodiment Practitioner who has expertise in the arena you are choosing to certify in - somatic fitness, somatic dance or somatic movement education and therapy .

Finishing the pre-requisites is a graduation requirement. Each pre-requisite is fundamental to being a teacher of BodyMind Dancing, Moving For Life or becoming a Dynamic Embodiment Practitioner (DEP) or Registered somatic movement educator or therapist (RSME or RSMT). You may speak with the faculty about attending one or two courses online with a portion of asynchronous learning (watching pre-recorded videos). This must be supplemented with supervised study group sessions, private tutorial with faculty or other pre-arranged study options.
Often, additional workshops are scheduled through the MFLCI programs after the first cohort meets, checking in with students about their availability. You are encouraged to join the MFLCI program with as many of the prerequisites completed or mostly completed. If you have not been able to do so, it is your responsibility to let the faculty know that the offerings don’t work for your schedule as soon as you have been accepted into the program.
